Flights Information for domestic flights in Nepal

Lukla Flights

In Nepal, there are several destinations where flights are operated. Amongst these various destinations, some regions may have frequent delays and cancellations. These problems are not regular, but there is a high probability of it. 

The country has a unique geographical detail of mountain peaks and narrow valleys that welcomes unpredictable weather and strong winds. Many times, there will be days of harsh weather in these regions, but it is best to remain calm in these situations. 

Below, we’ve gathered updated flight information for the domestic airports in Nepal-  Lukla, Pokhara, and Jomsom flights. 

Lukla Flights 

The Tenzing Hillary Airport is located at 2846m in Lukla, Nepal.  In the peak season, i.e., March-May and September- November, all flights operate from Ramechhap to Lukla. 

To catch an early flight, we’ll set off early from Kathmandu to Ramechhap. The total duration of the drive is 4 hours. 

Upon reaching, you can board the flight- for 15 minutes. 

In the off-season, the flights will operate from Kathmandu to Lukla for 30 minutes. 

Lukla flights are highly unpredictable, with frequent delays and cancellations. In case of long delays, we can choose an alternate option- booking a helicopter. 

We’ll arrange the helicopter ride at an additional cost. Please remain calm. 


Pokhara Flights 

Pokhara is one of the most vibrant and bustling cities in Nepal. The flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara are for 25-30 minutes duration. 

If the flight to Pokhara is delayed or canceled, you must remain calm. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, there are chances of flight delays or cancellations.

In these situations, we shall re-schedule the flights or hire a private vehicle to Pokhara ( 6-7 hours). 

Please note that extra charges will be applicable for the drive. 

Jomsom Flights 

The Jomsom airport is situated at a height of 2736m in Jomsom, Mustang. The flights to Jomsom operate from Pokhara and are of 25-30 minutes from the main destination. 

At this high-level altitude, flights might get delayed or even canceled in severe weather conditions. If any of these situations ever arise, we’ll immediately hire a private vehicle from Jomsom and start the drive from Jomsom to Pokhara. 

The drive will be of duration- 5-6 hours. 

Please remember that extra charges will be levied on hiring a private vehicle.

How much baggage is allowed on the Lukla flight? 

On the Lukla flight, you can carry 15kg ( both hand-carry and luggage). You cannot carry more than 15kg on the flight since it is heavily restricted on a small flight. 

No extra baggage will be allowed on the flight. 

How much baggage is allowed on the Pokhara flight? 

Baggage allowance can vary in terms of the Pokhara flight. Generally, you can carry up to 15-20kg, both hand-carry and luggage. 

If you have extra luggage, for every 1kg, an additional $1 will be levied. 

How much baggage is allowed on the Jomsom flight? 

On the Jomsom flight, you can carry 15kg both hand-carry and luggage. Since it flies to a higher altitude, this is a strict regulation and should be followed by all passengers. 

No additional baggage will be allowed. 

Is the flight to Lukla dangerous? How long is the Lukla airport’s runway? 

Lukla flights can be challenging and dangerous due to the short runway. The Tenzing Hillary Airport has a short runway- 527m hence this short runway and mountain terrains of this region adds up to the dangerous level of the flight. 

However, you can be assured that the flights are operated by skilled pilots with numerous years of experience in the aviation field of work.

Yes, on the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla you can clearly see Mt Everest, the highest peak in the world.
