Which is the best time to trek to Everest Base Camp?
The Everest Base Camp Trek is accessible all year round. Keeping this in mind, there are, however, some exceptions. We want your EBC trek to be the best one. Hence we recommend some of the best times for the trek.
The first is the spring season beginning from March to May. Spring is the best time, as you can expect perfect weather conditions. Next is the autumn season, which starts from mid-September to November. During this season, the weather conditions are moderate, i.e., neither too hot nor too cold, perfect for hiking.
Trekkers avoid the monsoon and the winter seasons due to heavy rainfall and snowfall. Trek during these seasons is possible, but most teahouses will be closed, and the weather conditions will not be favorable for hikes.
In summary, we recommend those best times, but we also want to let you know it is entirely your choice.
Everest Base Camp Trek Route Overview
Your trip to the Everest region begins upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Our staff at the airport will welcome you and transport you to your designated hotel. On the next day, a sightseeing tour will be organized where you'll get to explore the different UNESCO sites in Kathmandu.
We will start our journey for the EBC trek with an exciting flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Upon arriving at Lukla, you'll begin your hike to Phakding through the dense forests. On the way to Namche, you'll cross suspension bridges and pass several villages like Benkar and Monjo Jorsale.
From Namche Bazaar, you'll hike upto Everest View Hotel to witness the panoramic views of Thamserku, Changtse, Khumbutse, Nuptse, and Lhotse. Then, we'll ascend towards Tengboche, where you can visit the Tengboche monastery. We can spend time with the monks and pray inside the spiritual center.
We then continue our hike to Dingboche and also climb to Nagerjun hill. You can enjoy the spectacular views of the snow-capped mountains and also a close-up view of Mt Amadablam, a beautiful mountain from the hill.
All along the route, you'll see small settlements, Himalayan snow-cocks, and also yaks.
Continuing these paths, we'll reach Lobuche and ascend to the ultimate destination, Everest Base Camp. After exploring the EBC, we'll descend to Gorakshep overnight. In the morning, we'll hike up to Kala Patthar to catch the bright sunrise and the closest view of Mount Everest and Khumbu Glacier.
Afterward, we descend back to Lukla via Pheriche, mainly taking the same path and reaching Kathmandu via flight.

Itineraries
Day 1
Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2800m) and trek to Phakding (2652m) Flight Duration - 35-40 minutes / Trek Duration 3-4 hours
The trip begins with an early flight to Lukla at 2800m. Upon landing there, we begin our hike to Phakding, a small village surrounded by many villages.
Day 2
Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m) Trek Duration- 5-6 Hours
This will be a long day as you need to climb uphill to reach Namche Bazaar. You’ll cross
suspension bridges and lush forests and hear the mesmerizing sounds of rivers as you
cross the path.
When you reach Namche Bazaar, you’ll be taken to the hotel to stay for the night.
Day 3
Acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar
Our itinerary is designed in a special manner so that we can help our bodies to
acclimatize to the high altitude.
Following the plans, we’ll hike up to Everest View Hotel to witness the 360 degrees view
of Lhotse, Mount Everest, Nuptse (7861m), Ama Dablam (6812m), and Thamserku
(6608m).
Day 4
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3860m) Trek Duration- 5-6 Hours
After a day of acclimatization, we now make our way toward our next destination,
Tengboche.
Tengboche is a small village popular for its largest monastery- Tengboche Monastery.
After we reach the village, you can rest and then visit the monastery.
Day 5
Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4410m) Trek Duration- 4-5 Hours
Today's trek is relatively moderate, as you will be walking through the rhododendron
and pine forests to reach Dingboche, a small village nestled in a valley surrounded by
snow-capped peaks.
Upon reaching, you can rest at the guesthouse.
Day 6
Acclimatization day at Dingboche
Acclimatization is important for hikers. Hence, today we shall take a rest day at
Dingboche. After breakfast, we shall take a short hike to a nearby hiking spot.
Later, in the afternoon, you can take a nap or just walk around the village. After dinner is
served, you can go to your room and rest.
Day 7, Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (4910m)
Trek Duration- 4-5 Hours
We’ll continue the hike and take a steep climb today. Starting from Dingboche, we’ll slowly cross several villages. Then, after we cross Thukla, there is a steep uphill that takes an hour to reach the top.
As we cross the uphill, we’ll see a field filled with tombstones in honor of the Everest summitters who has passed away.
Then, gradually we’ll reach Lobuche.
Day 8, Trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5164m) and hike to Everest Base Camp (5364m)
Trek Duration- 8 Hours
Today is the highlight of our trek, hiking to the base camp of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. The trek to Gorak Shep is relatively easy, but the trek to the base camp can be challenging due to the high altitude and rocky terrain. Arrive at Base Camp and enjoy breathtaking views of the Khumbu Icefall and the surrounding mountains.
This is another highlight of the trek to Kala Patthar, one of the best viewpoints in the region, with breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and other surrounding mountains. The hike can be quite challenging due to the high altitude and steep climbs, but the scenery is worth the effort. After enjoying the sunrise view, return to Gorak Shep.
Day 10, Trek from Gorak Shep to Pheriche (4270m
Your Plan
Trek Duration- 7 Hours
Today's trek is a gradual descent as you return to Pheriche, passing through Lobuche and Dingboche along the way.
Day 11, Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar
Trek Duration- 7 Hours
After enjoying the delicious breakfast, we’ll head downhill as we return to Namche Bazaar. The trail passes through several small villages and offers excellent views of the surrounding peaks.
Day 12, Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla
Trek Duration- 7 Hours
After resting at Namche, we’ll now enjoy our last day of the hike. Retracing back the route, we’ll cross Jorsalle, Monjo, Phakding, and finally reach Lukla.
Day 13, Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu
With this, we reach the end of the trek. On this day, we shall fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla.
Upon reaching Kathmandu, you can rest, stroll, and explore the city.
Day 14,
Your Plan
With this, we reach the end of the trip. One of our staff will see you off at the airport and wish you farewell.
